Burton’s interest in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy was ended on Tuesday night as Doncaster Rovers proved too strong for us when they went away from the Pirelli Stadium with a 3-0 win, no further upset from the kings of upset the Brewers for the time being

We took our place in the second round care of a first round bye and had an early chance to take the lead but Alex MacDonald saw his effort well saved by Doncaster ‘keeper Jed Steer.

Another chance, from Dominic Knowles, went begging before Doncaster broke the deadlock. Harry Forrester 32) started a move and ended it too as he clashed onto James Coppinger’s ball into the area.

The chance to double the lead came the visitors way when John Mousinho brought down Nathan Tyson shortly before the break. Tyson (41) himself stepped up and made no mistake to give Doncaster a comfortable lead at half time.

Burton had chances to get back into the game, Jacob Blyth having the best off them, but a failure to take them and a late goal from Richie Wellens (87) minutes from fulltime condemned us to a cup exit.
