Burton were led by Gary Rowett one last time, but the weekend defeat at Stevenage Borough, did prove to be his last in charge.

Defeat isn’t the way that Rowett would have wanted to end his time with the Brewers but that’s the way thing went when we suffered a late 1-0 loss at the Lamex Stadium.

Stevenage forced an unlikely lead in the first half as Tom Pett’s effort, which was a cross that turned into a shot, looped up over Jon McLaughlin and off the bar.

In the second half we had the better chances, against his former side Lucas Akins brought a good save out of Stevenage ‘keeper Chris Day shortly after the break.

Phil Edwards went close from a corner, but his header went over.

What a way to end what’s been a wonderful spell in charge of the club! Charlie Adams had an effort that deflected off captain Ian Sharps (84) to leave Jon McLaughlin with no chance and win it for the hosts late on.
