Burton paid the price for some costly misses as we lost ground on the league 2 leaders when an inconsistent run of form saw us suffered another defeat.

Morecambe, looking to keep in touch with the early season pacesetters, went away with a 2-0 win at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Robbie Weir had a good early chance, which was turned away by Morecambe ‘keeper Barry Roche with Adam McGurk guilty of a wasteful finish with Alex MacDonald likewise, MacDonald also fired a log-range freekick just wide.

Twice in the matter of moment though, which left you thinking it wouldn’t be our day, Andy Parrish was in the right place to clear two efforts off the line. Firstly he kept out Jacob Blyth’s turn of the shot and then Lucas Akins’ follow up from the edge of the area was also cleared away to safety.

Morecambe though had more of a threat in the second half and two quick goals won them the points.

Kevin Ellison, who had already forced Jon McLaughlin into a flying save, wouldn’t be denied just ahead of the hour mark when Padraig Amond’s header back across goal left Ellison (59) to emphatically smash home.

Minutes later it was Ellison again causing problems, the veteran strikers header was saved by McLaughlin but Alex Kenyon (61) followed up to secure the points.
