Gary Rowett has been confirmed as the new Birmingham City boss, bringing an end his association with Burton.

Rowett has been linked time and time again with various jobs, as recently as a month or so ago he declined an offer from Blackpool but with Birmingham a former club of his as a player this wasn’t an offer he could refuse and many anticipated this being the case.

He tried to play down the chances of his leaving at the weekend but he was always believed to be in ‘pole position’ to be named the new boss of the championship strugglers with this confirmed on Monday.

We’ll miss Rowett without a shadow of a doubt with the new boss having big shoes to fill, but if the right one comes in with all the raw ingredients in place there isn’t a reason why we can’t continue to be successful moving forward.

Rowett took his coaching team of Kevin Summerfield, Kevin Poole and Mark Sale with him.

In caretaker charge at present we have Mike Whitlow stepping up from his head of academy role with him assisted by players Ian Sharps and Lee Bell.
