Zamaretto League Premier Division side Oxford City thought they had earned a replay against the League Two side but had their dreams crushed as defender Ryan Austin flicked in Michael Simpson`s free kick off the far post and give Paul Peschisolido`s men a second round tie away to League One side Gillingham in three weeks time.

Former Albion midfielder Michael Alexis, who made just one appearance for the club in 2005, gave Oxford City the lead in the 6th minute before Shaun Harrad equalised from the penalty spot in the 14th minute having been fouled by former Watford man David Perpetuini.

Jacques Maghoma found the net with a goal from close range just before the half to give Burton the lead, but 10 minutes after the resart Oxford City were level when Jamie Brooks scored a headed goal from deep inside the penalty box.

Then in the 95th minute it was Austin goal that set up the 2nd round tie with Gillingham.

‘We got out of jail and I’m just delighted that we’ve got through to the next round,’ said Peschisolido.

‘Oxford were excellent and, although we didn’t play well, you’ve got to give them all the credit in the world. In fact, they were perhaps unlucky not to knock us out nevermind take the tie to a replay.
