Burton Albion`s first home game in the Football League was a game full of goals. Greg Pearson continued his goal scoring streak with two goals, while Russell Penn, Shaun Harrad and John McGrath each scored. Artur Krysiak started in goal to make it three different keepers in three games.

The home team started out quickly, with just under three minutes in, Greg Pearson headed the ball home from just inside the six-yard box from a John McGrath corner.

Burton looked the better team as they continued to add pressure on the Morecambe keeper.

At the 16 minute mark the pressure paid off as Russell Penn scored from a Jimmy Phillips cross to make it 2-0.

A minute later Morecambe pulled one back as Ian Craney knocked one past on loan Birmingham keeper Krysiak, to make it 2-1.

The goal brought some hope to the lifeless Shrimps which saw Michael Twiss and Will Haining taking shots on goal.

Morecambe looked like they would be the team that scores next, but it was a well taken strike from Shaun Harrad just outside the penalty box that found the lower left corner and allowed the Brewers to regain their two goal lead.

Just before half time, Twiss had a chance to add his name to the score sheet with a quick shot on goal, but his effort hit the crossbar.

The second half did not start any better than the first for Morecambe as Pearson was tripped up in the box by Danny Adams and it was Pearson himself that stepped up to the spot to give Burton a 4-1 lead.

Some sloppy play at the back allowed Phil Jevons to grab a goal and make it 4-2, but a McGrath goal 15 minutes from time ended the Shrimps comeback.

With four minutes from time Mark Duffy was sent off with a two footed challenge on Paul Boertien.

The win means that Burton have now won the last three games against Morecambe, but the Shrimps still have a 8-3 lead in the series over the Brewers.
