It has been reported today that two players have departed the club; one who will be missed, the other a player we never really saw anything of in his eighteen months with the club.

First of all, Paul Boertien has decided to call time on his career, this following a failure to fully recover from the groin injury he picked up way back in March. Permanently signed to Carlisle, Derby, Walsall and Burton, he also served loan spells at Crewe, Notts County and Chesterfield whilst contracted to the Rams, amassing around 250 league appearances during that time. Personally speaking, he was the best left-back I`ve seen during my time following Burton and it is a pity that he won`t be seen again in a yellow and black shirt. We`ve certainly no left-back on the books right now that has the calmness on the ball, an eye for a good pass and the maturity Paul has shown during his spell at the Pirelli.

The other departure is that of James Ellison, signed from the Liverpool Academy during the summer of 2010. The move just never worked out and he was given very little playing time at the club, instead being allowed to spend time on loan at Stafford Rangers, Hednesford Town, Alfreton and Chester, of which none of these moves saw him gain much in the way of first team football. In fact, his main time in the news during the last eighteen months was for getting himself stabbed in the arse during a night out in Liverpool. As nights out in Liverpool go, it was a quiet one by the sound of it.

James` most recent spell on loan was at Chester and he is yet to make his full debut for them, and his departure may well signal the return from Aldershot of Greg Pearson, who has spent the last month on loan there. Well, someone has to keep that bench warm!

Fingers crossed that whatever Paul and James set out to do, it will bring them both much success in the future.
