The Burton promotion bid was dealt a blow on Friday night when the setback of a rare defeat was felt.

Burton went to Bristol Rovers are the favourites to win that game, however they ended up coming away from the Memorial Stadium with a 2-0 defeat.

You had to go back to November for the last time that the Brewers were beaten away but this defeat was one that was warranted with Gary Rowett conceding that the performance wasn’t good enough and he’s looking for an immediate response to this.

The Brewers boss said: ‘I am very disappointed with our performance, but now it is how we react to it that counts.

‘We have been very proud of our away form, but now we have to start again. How we use our remaining games will define our season and we have to do better than we did here.

‘Bristol Rovers are a good side with some big physical players. We spoke before the game about being tough in the conditions, but they were better than we were in handling them.

‘We didn’t create much and I have absolutely no complaints about the result. Now we need to make a fresh start and get ourselves going quickly again.’

Second half goals from David Clarkson and John-Joe O’Toole were enough to give the Pirates the points.
