The Brewers caused a major league cup shock on Tuesday, the latest in a string of upsets they have managed in cup competition over the years.

Burton dispatched of championship outfit Wigan Athletic 2-1 at the Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday night to boo a place in the second round.

Wigan made plenty of changes from their side that opened the season with a two-two draw with Reading, with Uwe Rosler’s side taking time to settle with the Brewers definitely having the better of the early exchanges with Ali Al-Habsi saving from Adam McGurk, Stuart Beavon and Lucas Akins.

Then, against the run of play, Wigan took the lead when Marc-Antoine Fortune (27) turned well to find the back of the net.

Burton looked likely to go into the break two-one down but equalised deep into injury-time when John Mousinho’s cross was turned home by substitute Dominic Knowles (45+2), he had come on for the injured McGurk.

Early in the second half Beavon (52) we completed the comeback and got the lead we deserved with that goal seeing us through to a two-one win and arguably the biggest upset we’ve managed?
