Burton’s League 1 season continued with a win against Coventry at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday.

A promotion battle between Burton and Coventry saw the Brewers ensure top spot was secured with a two-nil win deny the Sky Blues the chance of, potentially, going top themselves.

Jon McLaughlin kept the scores level in the first half with second half goals from Calum Butcher and Stuart Beavon, who had hit the crossbar, winning it for Burton.

These were the other results.

Saturday 16th January 2016
Blackpool 5-0 Scunthorpe
Bradford 1-0 Oldham
Bury 2-3 Walsall
Colchester 1-2 Sheff Utd
Coventry 0-2 Burton
Doncaster 2-2 Gillingham
Peterborough 0-0 Southend
Rochdale P-P Fleetwood
Shrewsbury 0-3 Barnsley
Swindon 4-3 Crewe
Wigan 3-1 Chesterfield

Sunday 17th January 2016
Millwall 3-1 Port Vale

Looking at these results the stand out ones have to be the wins for Blackpool and Barnsley against Scunthorpe and Shrewsbury respectively.

The recent resurgent of Barnsley continued with a win over relegation rivals Shrewsbury with the three-nil win at Greenhous Meadow for the Tykes helping to ease their fears but makes relegation a more realistic prospect for the Shrews.

But the result of the weekend in League 1 has to be the five-nil thrashing dished out by Blackpool against Scunthorpe, which helps the Tangerines’ own survival hopes with a rare moment of joy in recent times at Bloomfield Road witnessed!

Burton are back in action at the weekend with Shrewsbury visiting the Pirelli Stadium.
