Burton have so far brought in six players this summer, however Gary Rowett’s search for another ‘keeper remains ongoing.

Shane Cansdell-Sherriff, George Taft, John Mousinho, Lucas Akins, Stuart Beavon and Callum McFadzean have all arrived on permanent contracts, or loans in the case of Beavon and McFadzean, but a ‘keeper has again proved difficult for the boss.

Rowett is looking for someone with ‘a bit of experience’ to challenge Dean Lyness for the no.1 spot but he knows this isn’t going to be an ‘easy one’, as proved the case last summer.

He told the Burton Mail: ‘We’ll be looking at a few keepers this year and the search is ongoing.

‘Ideally, we’re looking to bring someone in with a bit of experience to go alongside Deano but there doesn’t seem to be that many players out there of the ilk we’re looking at.

‘It’s once again not going to be an easy one.’

Jordan Pickford, Benji Siegrist, Mats Morch, Rob Lainton, Freddy Hall and even veteran coach Kevin Poole were all used last season, or at least sat on the bench but the ideal move for Rowett would be to bring in a permanent signing with him targeting someone in their mid-20’s who has played 100-150 games.

Easier said than done, but what he doesn’t want when he says experience is someone in their late 30’s with their career running down.

The Brewers aren’t a club that often pays a fee for a player, Lucas Akins was the first money signing during Rowett’s reign, however should the right player be available at the right price then this isn’t being ruled out….
