There are likely to be one or two sleepless Burton nights as this week goes on and the play-off semi final second leg meeting with Southend United gets closer.

Last season the Brewers went into the second leg of the league two play-off with Bradford City holding a one-nil lead but a three-one defeat saw Burton edged out three-two on aggregate.

Gary Rowett was in charge last season, however it’s memories of previous play-offs that he had been involved with that he has shared thoughts with in the Burton Mail this week. They included back-to-back end of season play-off defeats to Watford and Barnsley when he was with Birmingham City.

What he sees as key to progression this Saturday is approaching the game in the right way, he knows that his side can’t just sit back and look to defend their lead but it can’t be all out attack it’s a case of getting the balance right.

He said: ‘What’s important now is we can’t go down to Roots Hall and hold on and we can’t go down there and invite pressure.

‘We’ve still got to go and attack and we’ve still got to go and play our game.

‘Obviously, we’ve got to be mindful of one or two things they might do and whether we can stop them we’ll soon see.’

Will it be more of the same or happier times for Burton and Rowett this weekend do you think?
