Having allowed Remi Matthews to return to Norwich at the end of his loan Nigel Clough was in the need for a new ‘keeper, which has seen him turn former West Ham, Derby and Gillingham man Stephen Bywater.

The 34-year-old has most recently been playing in India for Kerala Blasters but he’ll now compete with no.1 Jon McLaughlin for the gloves after signing a deal until the end of the season.

Bywater had enjoyed his time working with a former boss (Peter Taylor) in India but he felt it was right to come back to England and looks forward to his time at the Pirelli Stadium, working with familiar faces again, after signing telling the Official Website.

‘Yes, India was an experience. I got the call last summer to go out there with Peter Taylor but I’m back now and happy to join Burton. They are on a good run and hopefully will have a good end to the season. I knew the club was interested in a goalkeeper and we had a chat. Martin Taylor was the goalkeeping coach at Derby and now he’s here that was a big attraction for me. I wanted to join the team as I know he will do well at Burton. The sessions we do keep you on your toes. As a keeper 90 per cent of the time you deal with the goalkeeping coach so that’s important.’

He went onto talk about seeing what great team spirit he can already see at the club just from some early training sessions with him signing ‘enjoy himself’ as he look to be ‘part of a squad that’s hopefully going for promotion.’

Meanwhile the proposed Boxing Day game at Bradford, postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Valley Parade, has been rearranged with a new date set.

Burton will now head to the Bantams for this League 1 meeting on Tuesday 8th March 2016, which has a 7.45pm kick-off time.

As you would expected previously purchased remain valid but refunds will be given for those than can’t get to the new date with tickets also still available ranging from £5-£25.
