Kevin Amankwaah has left Burton Albion after being informed that his short-term deal won`t be renewed.

Paul Peschisolido was quoted by the Derby Telegraph ‘I need the funds to strengthen other areas, so I’ve not been able to renew Kevin’s deal. He’s done all right for us and I think it’s fair to say he was shocked – he probably felt he’d done enough to earn a contract’.

Given that he gave the side an attacking balance down the right flank, equal to that provided by Aaron on the left side, this is a surprise move and it was his cross that set Burton up for the penalty that ultimately won us the match at Northampton on Boxing Day.

Equally surprising considering the amount of match time he has seen this season, left back Danny Blanchett has been assured of his importance by the manager, with Peschisolido saying in the same interview “I know he’s frustrated but he’s still very much a part of what we’re doing. He can play either side or at centre-back and, with Andy Corbett back in the team, he may get back on the bench”.

Given the performances from both Blanchett and Amankwaah this season I think the wrong player has departed the Pirelli Stadium.

On another note, can’t wait to see Corbett overlapping on the right flank at the Globe Arena tomorrow afternoon à la Amankwaah….
