Gary Rowett is looking for Burton’s continued evolvement to carry on this season.

In seasons gone by the Brewers had often deployed a ‘big man’ to act as a target man to hold up play and bring others into it, however last season Rowett started to move away from this but didn’t quite have the personnel at the time to do so but he feels they can this season.

A more fluid and counter attacking style is his aim.

The Burton boss told the Burton Mail: ‘I think last season we went away from having a target man. If you have one it can mean you tend to play in a bit more of a direct fashion.

‘This season we’re going to have to evolve a bit. We wanted to press more last season but we felt we couldn’t quite do it with the personnel we had.

‘We can play that better now, we can press and we can counter attack.’

Calvin Zola had been linked with a return to the Pirelli Stadium so having the option to play a little more direct and have that target man wasn’t being ruled out and still isn’t being ruled out with Rowett going on to add that there is ‘still an opportunity for a deal’ if someone can catch his eye.

He knows that at times you have to go more direct, whilst he feels he has players to do this there could be room for a further addition before the season begins.
