Burton took on higher league opponents again on Tuesday, and again gave a good account of themselves against Derby County.

Although it was the championship side that eventually ran out 1-0 winners on the night at the Pirelli Stadium.

Jon McLaughlin was given his first start at home, the ‘keeper looking to make his mark as he seeks to become the no.1 ahead of Dean Lyness. Plenty of youngsters were also given a chance.

The one and only goal, to give Derby the one-nil win, came just two-minutes before the half time break as Jeff Hendrick’s headed home.

Burton: Jon McLaughlin, Phil Edwards, Shane Cansdell-Sherriff, John Mousinho (sub Billy Kee 63), Ian Sharps (c)(sub Liam Slade 73), Robbie Weir (sub Joe Doyle 82), Stuart Beavon (sub Dominic Knowles 55), Lucas Akins (sub Marcus Harness 73), Adam McGurk (sub Alex MacDonald 63), Matty Palmer

In completely unrelated news, but news ahead of the new season, it’s been confirmed that we’ve been handed a northern section bye in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy this season.
