An unbeaten start to the season by Burton, the only game not won was drawn in league 2, was continued on Sunday lunchtime.

Including league and cup games now Burton have now won seven out of eight games as an unbeaten run carried on with a 2-0 success at the Pirelli Stadium on Sunday against Portsmouth.

We couldn’t really have got off to a better start as with our first real attack we opened up the Portsmouth defence as Adam McGurk (2) tucked home Stuart Beavon’s cross-shot from a couple of yards out and we didn’t really look back.

Portsmouth had their moment, Jed Wallace volleying wide and Danny Hollands putting a couple high or wide but the common theme with the Portsmouth efforts were that they were mainly from range.

In the second half though John McLaughlin made a great double save from Alex Wynter to prevent the visitors drawing level, with us extending the lead shortly after.

Lucas Akins (55) cut inside and unleashed an unstoppable effort low into the corner past Paul Jones to double the lead with us able to see the game out comfortably two-nil.

This win takes us back up to the summit with us, so far, having dropped only two points due to one draw, the rest have been won as we laid down an early season marker of intent against one of those that should be challenging with us.
