A 100%, league and cup, record to kick-off the 2014/15 season was maintained by Burton on Tuesday night.

Many would have expected Burton to see off Exeter City at the Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday, it wasn’t easy, but the job was done with a 1-0 win.

Had it not been for Exeter ‘keeper Christy Pym we probably could, and would, have been out of sight!

The Exeter man twice denied John Mousinho a breakthrough goal but was finally beaten by Stuart Beavon (41) just before the break when the away side failed to clear a long throw.

Exeter applied some late pressure, with Scot Bennett causing problems with a header, but we had done enough to see out a one-nil win and, even at this early stage, sit pretty in second place.

Assistant boss Kevin Summerfield paid tribute to Pym, who kept Exeter in the game, but feels we deserved the point, he told BBC Radio Derby: ‘I think it was a really good, strong, positive first half. When we attacked, we created lots of chances.

‘If you take the goalie out of the equation and I think we would’ve been away and clear.

‘We knew it was going to be a little bit more difficult in the second half. They came into the game and we just couldn’t get going at all in the second half.’
